ActionCostTriggerDescription
AttackAction—With this action, you make one melee or ranged attack. Certain features, such as the Extra Attack feature of the fighter, allow you to make more than one attack with this action.
Cast a SpellAction (varies by spell)—Spellcasters have access to spells and can use them during combat. Each spell has a casting time — most are 1 action, some are 1 bonus action, some are 1 reaction. You cannot cast a leveled spell as an action and a bonus action spell in the same turn except cantrips.
DashAction—When you take the Dash action, you gain extra movement for the current turn equal to your speed, after applying any modifiers.
DisengageAction—If you take the Disengage action, your movement does not provoke opportunity attacks for the rest of the turn.
DodgeAction—When you take the Dodge action, you focus entirely on avoiding attacks. Until the start of your next turn, any attack roll made against you has disadvantage if you can see the attacker, and you make Dexterity saving throws with advantage. You lose this benefit if you are Incapacitated or your speed drops to 0.
HelpAction—You can lend your aid to another creature in the completion of a task, giving them advantage on the next ability check to perform that task. Alternatively, aid a friendly creature attacking a creature within 5 feet of you — their next attack roll against that target has advantage if the attack is made before the start of your next turn.
HideAction—When you take the Hide action, you make a Dexterity (Stealth) check in an attempt to hide. If you succeed, you gain the benefits of the Stealth rules until you give away your position.
Opportunity AttackReactionA hostile creature you can see moves out of your reachYou can make an opportunity attack when a hostile creature that you can see moves out of your reach. You use your reaction to make one melee attack against the provoking creature.
ReadyAction—You decide what perceivable circumstance will trigger your reaction. Then you choose the action you will take in response. When the trigger occurs, you can take your reaction right after the trigger finishes or ignore the trigger. If you readied a spell, it must be Concentration.
SearchAction—When you take the Search action, you devote your attention to finding something. The DM might have you make a Wisdom (Perception) check or an Intelligence (Investigation) check.
Two-Weapon FightingBonus Action—When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon in the other hand. You do not add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus attack unless it is negative.
Use an ObjectAction—You normally interact with an object while doing something else. When an object requires your action for its use, you take the Use an Object action.
