Rules Reference

Rules Reference is your game system's own content, browsable inside your world. Spells, species, ancestries, classes, backgrounds, communities, weapons, armour, equipment, feats, skills, and conditions — searchable, card-formatted, and linkable from anything you write.

Open it from Rules Reference in the world sidebar. It appears once your world has a game system set, and it carries the system's content, not yours: nothing here counts against your world's entity limits.

What's in it

The catalogue depends on the system your world is set to. A D&D 5e world gets races, subraces, backgrounds, classes and spells; a Daggerheart world gets ancestries, communities, domain cards and classes; a Pathfinder 2e world gets ancestries and backgrounds under Pathfinder's own naming.

Everything is rendered as cards with the fields the system actually uses — a spell card shows its level, casting time, range and components; an item card shows its cost, weight and properties; a class shows features, subclasses, and progression.

💡Tip

Use the filter at the top of any content type to narrow a long list. Spell and item lists in particular are long enough that scrolling is not a search strategy.

Copying an entry into your world

Reference entries are read-only — they're the system's text. When you want to change one, use Copy to World on the entry page.

That creates a real entity in your codex, of the type the entry corresponds to:

Reference entryBecomes
SpellSpell entity
Weapon, armour, equipmentItem entity
Race, subrace, ancestrySpecies entity
CommunityCulture entity
ConditionCondition entity

From there it's yours: rename it, rewrite it, wikilink it, set its visibility. The homebrewed version lives in your world; the original stays untouched in the reference.

💡Tip

This is the clean path for homebrew. Copy the entry, change the two things you wanted changed, and your table reads your version everywhere without you having to retype the other twenty lines.

Players and the portal

Rules Reference is available to players in the portal as well as to you in the codex. Your table can look up a condition or a spell without leaving the world you built and without owning the book — the same content, the same cards.

Troubleshooting

Rules Reference isn't in my sidebar. The world has no game system set, or is set to Agnostic. Set a supported system in world settings.

A content type is missing for my system. Not every system has every category — Daggerheart has no "race", D&D has no "community". The catalogue shows what the system defines.

A copied entry didn't keep its parent. A copied subrace doesn't attach to its parent species automatically. Open the copied entity and set the parent yourself.
