Your character portal
The character portal is your read-only window into the campaign world. You see what your character would know — not the full world the GM has built, and not other players' private character information.
Your campaign dashboard
When you log in, you land on your campaign dashboard — a list of every campaign you have joined. Each campaign card shows a snapshot of your character:
- Portrait — your character's portrait if your GM has set one
- Name, class, and race
- Level badge — your current level
- Affiliation — the faction or group your GM has recorded for your character
- Session Zero status — if your Session Zero is still incomplete, a small amber indicator appears as a reminder
Click any campaign card to open that campaign's portal.
What's visible to you
Your portal shows content the GM has made available to you specifically:
- Party-visible entities — NPCs, locations, factions, items, and lore the GM has revealed to the whole group
- Character-tagged entities — content your GM has shared with your character specifically, based on your character's tags
- Session summaries the GM has published after each session
- Your character's backstory articles that have been approved and canonized
- The world timeline, showing events marked as visible to the party
You won't see GM-only content — that's your GM's private notes, unrevealed secrets, and plot information. If a wikilink in an article points to a GM-only entity, it appears as plain text rather than a clickable link.
Navigating the portal
The portal sidebar lists entity types that have content available to you: NPCs, Locations, Factions, Items, Events, Lore. Types with no visible content are hidden — if you don't see a category, there's nothing there for your character yet.
Click any category to browse a filtered list. Use the search bar at the top to find any entity by name. Results are filtered to your visibility level automatically.
Entity pages
Click any entity card to open its full article. From the article page you can:
- Read the full article content, including any text blocks, callouts, and images the GM has added
- Click wikilinks to navigate to connected entities
- View the entity's relationship connections
- See linked images the GM has attached
You can't edit entity articles. If you notice an error or want to add a note to your GM, use the message icon on the entity page.
Your character profile
Your profile lives in the portal and includes:
- Name, portrait, class, race, and background
- Backstory articles that have been approved by your GM
- Your arc log, relationship anchors, and other character tools
Your GM sets up your character initially. You can update your portrait and add to your backstory from the profile page.
Your character profile is visible to your GM. Other players can see your character's name and portrait in the party roster, but not your private arc log entries or unapproved backstory articles.
If something isn't showing
Two reasons an entity might not appear in your portal:
- Your GM has it set to GM Only and hasn't revealed it yet
- Your character doesn't have the visibility tag that unlocks that content
In either case, ask your GM. They can check visibility settings and share content directly with your character if appropriate.
The portal updates in real time. When your GM reveals something during a session, it appears in your portal immediately — you don't need to refresh the page.
Troubleshooting
My portal is empty — nothing is showing. Your GM controls what you see. If the portal is empty, they haven't revealed anything to the party yet. This is common at the start of a campaign before Session 1. Ask your GM to make some entities Party-visible once the campaign begins.
Wikilinks in articles show as plain text instead of clickable links. A wikilink that renders as plain text means the entity it points to is still GM Only — your character doesn't know about it yet. When your GM reveals that entity, the link will become clickable automatically. No refresh needed.
My character profile shows the wrong name or portrait. Your GM sets up your character initially. If the name or portrait is wrong, ask your GM to update it from the campaign dashboard. Once your profile is set up, you can update your portrait yourself from your profile page.
I accepted the invite but I'm seeing someone else's world. If you have multiple campaign invites or Skryrún accounts, confirm you're logged into the right account. Click your profile icon at the top of the portal to check. If you're on the right account but seeing a different campaign, use the campaign selector to switch to the correct one.
My campaign card shows "Session Zero incomplete." This means your GM's Session Zero workflow hasn't been completed for your character yet. Ask your GM — they complete Session Zero from the campaign dashboard. Once done, the indicator disappears from your card.
