Table Display (Cast to TV)

Table Display puts a chrome-free view of the live game on a screen the whole table can see — a TV, a tablet propped at the end of the table, a second monitor. It shows the current battlemap, the initiative order, and anything you choose to reveal, and nothing else: no sidebar, no GM notes, no controls.

The link belongs to the campaign, not to a single session. Open it on the TV once and leave it there — it picks up each session as you start it.

Setting it up

  1. Start your session, then open Cast to TV in the GM Screen sidebar.
  2. Copy the display URL, or show the QR code and scan it from the device you want to cast to.
  3. Open the link on the TV or secondary display.
  4. Set the TV orientation — landscape or portrait — to match how the screen is mounted.

The URL is stable. The same link works next week and the week after; you don't re-share it every session.

⚠️Warning

Table Display needs an active session. If the link reports the session isn't live, press Start Session on the GM Screen first.

What appears on it

  • The current battlemap — full-screen, with tokens, walls, lighting, and fog exactly as the party would see them. Switch maps on the GM Screen and the TV follows.
  • Initiative — the running order, whose turn it is, and each combatant's health as a coloured tier rather than a number.
  • Reveals — entity cards, images, and scene art you push to it.
  • Pings and effects — an Alt+click ping and any attack or spell effect play on the TV at the same moment they play for you.

Exact NPC health, AC, and your notes never reach it. See Running combat for what player-facing surfaces are shown.

Revealing to the table

Table Display is one of your reveal destinations, alongside the player portal, the companion link, and Discord. Turn it on in the Reveal destinations list, and anything you reveal during play lands there too.

Content you reveal shows a Table Display badge so you can tell at a glance where a given reveal went.

Director focus

Long-click a point on the battlemap to fly the Table Display view to it. Your own canvas shows where the TV is heading. Useful for pulling forty eyes to the same corner of a large map without saying "top left, no, the other top left".

Phones at the same table

A player who opens the same link while signed in gets their character's view — their sight, their reach, and a ruler — rather than the room's view. Same link, different viewer. The TV itself has no viewer, which is why it shows the shared party view.

Troubleshooting

The TV says the session isn't active. Start the session on the GM Screen. The display link is campaign-wide but only renders a live session.

The TV is a scene behind. Updates are pushed live, with a periodic full refresh as a safety net — a display that missed a message repairs itself well inside a scene. If it stays stale, reload the page on the TV.

The map is sideways. Set the TV orientation in the Cast to TV panel to match how the screen is mounted.

A player sees the whole map on their phone. They aren't signed in, or aren't a member of the campaign — so they get the room's shared view rather than their character's. Have them sign in on that device.
